About Monument Builders

Monument Builders Inc. is a Fully Licensed and insured General Building Contractor,  owned and operated by Bobby and Missy Paul.  Bobby and Missy were both born and raised in the Santa Cruz County Area. They have 4 wonderful children together, and one grandchild.  Over the decades they have formed deep roots in the community.   They have a passion for helping families and businesses create the homes and spaces they dream of.  To us, a Monument is a home or building standing for generations, to attest to the lives and dreams that came before. Together they have built custom homes, ADU's, and done numerous remodels. They hope to continue to build projects that are enduring and beautiful for generations to come.  

 Bobby began his construction career almost 30 years ago (1998) working as an apprentice carpenter, framing custom homes in Santa Cruz County.  As a second generation carpenter and contractor he was raised around the job site and construction projects, it's in his "blood."  Over the next few years, Bobby dove head first into custom home framing, structural concrete, siding, and interior finish work.  In a world of "paper" contractors and "YouTubers" with no real trade experience, Bobby definitely put his time in to learn the trades.  

The passion for the process is something Bobby has always loved.  "It's so rewarding, especially with new projects.  One day there's a dirt lot, and months later we've built a beautiful home! Or the remodel, we start with some old concept or design and when were done, its something beautiful and functional."  In 2005 Bobby became a licensed General Contractor working primarily in Bend Oregon, building custom homes.  Some years later an economic downturn pushed Bobby to pursue a career in Law Enforcement.  Bobby served with the San Jose Police Department and Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office for over 16 years.  During that time he worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, training new Police Officers and Deputies, Training Unit Officer, Gang Enforcement Officer, and Detective with the Santa Cruz Anti Crime Team.  During his years as a Law Enforcement Officer he continued to build custom homes, complete remodels, and create fine woodworking pieces.  Bobby has since retired from law enforcement.  He has continued to pursue his love for fine woodworking, something he first started as a teenager.  One of his hobbies is building custom acoustic guitars.  "Guitar making feels like the pinnacle of woodworking to me, the smell of the cedar binding inside the guitars, the accuracy required to make it come together and play and look good.  And when you're done, not only do you have a beautiful instrument to look at and hold,  but if you've done a good job, it produces a beautiful sound."  Along with  guitar making, Bobby has a  passion for high end cabinet and furniture making.  "Building custom furniture and furniture grade cabinets is something I love doing. When they are done and installed they make such a difference in the look and quality of the build." "I love the design and conceptualization, the creation, the smell of the wood, the final product, it's rewarding, it's my art form, my creative outlet."

All of this experience makes Bobby the ideal Project Manager for Monument Builders.  He has years of experience in general contracting, project management, framing, concrete work, siding, finish work and cabinet work.  He brings a depth of knowledge from the beginning to the end of every project.  He has an eye for details, knowing what the final product requires in the early stages of the build.  His years of law enforcement make him sensitive to how important trust and integrity are.  Knowing the character of the people working in and on your home or business is critical.  He brings this knowledge and integrity to every  build.  

Missy has been by Bobby's side through all of his builds.  Missy has worked as a school teacher, mother of four, wife, and business owner. She has extensive business and administrative experience through her years of running small businesses and construction projects.  She is truly the heart behind the operation and brings the logistical business management experience to the team.  Behind every successful project is Missy, pulling many strings.  Beyond her business talent, Missy has an eye for design.  She has put her design touch on many projects, making them look amazing.
